5th October 2019 tax deadline

While people may remember the upcoming 31st October tax return deadline, and the 31st January one… often they forget about the 5th October deadline.

If you have received untaxed income (such as from self-employment) in the year to 5th April 2019, then you must complete a 2018/19 tax return.

In order for HMRC to issue you with a tax return for completion, you have to notify them by 5th October 2019 at the latest.

Failure to notify can result in HMRC issuing a penalty fine.

As nearly 6 months will have passed now since the end of the tax year, ideally all the 2019 tax returns should have already been completed and submitted to HMRC – that way, you will know in advance of the 31st January 2020 payment deadline what is due.

Shortly after the 5th October deadline, the 31st October first return submission deadline is also rapidly approaching as well.
