It has been reported today that tax and national insurance may be combined in the future.

This is something that has been talked about for some time, so it would be good to see matters progress.

For the self-employed there are two areas that cause the most confusion:

1) National Insurance

2) Payments on Account

It is fairly common for newly self-employed people to be caught out by these areas if they do not have an adviser, so it will be interesting to see how things develop and the proposals for combining tax and national insurance.
