There are also usually opportunities to increase your visibility, at little or no cost, in the local community.

For example taxhelp.uk.com are supporters of the Elmbridge Borough Council’s more discount card. The card allows a range of discounts to holders, from local businesses to leisure facilities – by offering a discount our business is promoted for free in the local community.

Perhaps there are similar schemes in your area? If not, you could always approach the local chamber of commerce or consider starting something yourself between local businesses and sharing the cost.

I have seen local business groups combine their resources and produce a leaflet advertising say 15 businesses on it. This means that the individuals costs are much lower, and there are always opportunities for developing referral relationships with the other members as well.
