Social Media for accountants

Last night I was invited to present to the West Surrey regional meeting for members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Guildford.

It was a busy meeting, the room was full and we had over 85 chartered accountants attending, to hear myself and also a presentation on ‘Social Media Networking – modern techniques that ACCA are using’ by Ros Leah, Head of Professional Development for the ACCA.

Ros presented first and shared how ACCA are using their twitter, Facebook and Linkedin sites to help members and students.

I then followed and presented a special ACCA version of my ‘more time and money via Social Media’ presentation, which shares some of the successes I have had with using Social Media in my own business since 2008.

There was good interest in how these resources can be used in business, particularly with the getting started in twitter guide handout I gave (it’s an excerpt from my Chocks Away book.)

The power of social media meant I had already received feedback on my presentation before I had returned home!

I was also talking afterwards to an attendee about how Foursquare could be of benefit to his business, and it was great to see so many accountants starting to embrace Social Media.
